Each tent looks out over the water and has private en-suite facilities, including 24 hour hot and cold running water, open-air showers, flush toilets and modern amenities.

Morning and night game drives are conducted by specialist guides and trackers in open safari vehicles. This area is home to huge herds of elephants and buffalo. There are few places in Africa where such concentrated numbers of these animals exist, especially in the dry season.

The shady, treed environment of the camp hosts a great variety of birds and squirrels that visit daily. A family of hippo and an elephant or three are regularly sighted from the tents. This contributes to the relaxed calm that prevails at Lagoon. The predators are also well represented by lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. These animals are generally very relaxed in the presence of vehicles, meaning the sightings are usually at close range.

Day 9

You will be transferred to the airstrip in time for your scheduled light aircraft charter flight to Xakanaxa Airstrip for Xakanaxa Camp.
Xakanaxa Camp is one of the few Okavango lodges which can offer comprehensive year-round boating trips, as well as extensive nature drives into good game country. It has one of the best locations in Botswana, and is the original camp at Xakanaxa.

The game drives in this sector of Moremi, take one through a large variety of differing vegetation types, down winding tracks, through mopane forests and across lush grasslands. The waterways are either forded by vehicle or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where boat trips lead into the sinuous channels of the Delta, one of Africa’s greatest natural wonders.

Game in the area includes just about everything imaginable – all of the Moremi game can be seen on the game drives, including tsessebe, lechwe, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, elephant, sable and giraffe. The predators are prevalent and lions are often heard calling in the early mornings. Leopards, wild dog and hyaena are often sighted. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months, when the migrants are breeding, see the bird checklist.

Boat trips and game drives are conducted by a team of experienced, professional game guides. The camp consists of luxury, spacious safari tents, with en-suite facilities. They are fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The dining room is open fronted with reed walls and a thatched roof, and has a fully stocked bar. Centrepiece in the dining room, is a dining table, tailor-made in old railway sleeper timber. Wholesome meals, candle-lit dinners and a selection of fine wines, will more than satisfy. The service is personalised and of a high standard. A rustic and friendly atmosphere prevails.
